Azzaro Decibel is a fragrance that offers a unique blend of synthetic, smoky incense with a strong sweet tobacco and red currant or cranberry scent. The liquorice, which is more of the dry woody part of the smell, adds a touch of sweetness to the fragrance. While the licorice can be off-putting on a test strip, it dissipates quickly on the skin, making it a more pleasing scent.
This fragrance is very similar to Dior Fahrenheit Absolute minus the diesel, but with an added softness. The fragrance endures on a test strip for an impressive three days, eventually drying down to a balsamic smoky tonka. However, on the skin, it fades rather rapidly, lasting only six hours.
This fragrance contains myrrh, frankincense, and benzoin resins, which provide a unique blend of notes that the "incense" encapsulates. The citrus notes are almost undetectable, and the vetiver blends well with the softer, smokier scents, unlike its stiffness and harshness when used as a base in citrus-woods compositions. Additionally, there's a hint of patchouli.
While not being able to identify the floral notes used in the fragrance, it is clear that some masculine floral notes are present. Smoke here is not like burning tobacco but more like the lingering smoke after burning incense in a small space. Overall, this is definitely a masculine scent that performs better in cold weather, and it is appropriate for intimate encounters.
Final Thoughts
The sillage of this fragrance starts quite strong, but it softens within two to four hours. It could layer well with something sweeter and spicier like 1 Million or Perry Ellis midnight. Overall, Azzaro Decibel is a unique, well-crafted fragrance that offers an addictive, smoky scent with a touch of sweetness.
